Rooted and Reaching
A little bit about me
From the very beginning, I belonged to the natural world.
I am an observer, a listener, attuned to what moves beneath the surface.
As a child, I learned that stillness and attention were their own kind of language. Hours spent in the branches of the neighbor's cherry tree, or crouched beneath tiny plantlings that became, in my imagination, an entire forest. Absorbing everything through my senses, learning to read what the living world was quietly saying.
Organically, over the years, HUMANS found their way to me when they needed to talk, to be heard, to find clarity.
Long before I had a name for it, I was learning to hold space — to be the kind of presence that lets something finally rise to the surface and breathe.
I have spent my life learning to tend living things.

As a photojournalist,
I learned to be present without imposing.
I learned that truly seeing people helps them let their guard down.
As a teacher,
I learned to meet students exactly where they were, and offer what they needed: guidance, a steady hand, encouragement.
Then I became a farmer. Hands in soil, eyes on sky.
Learning, in the most elemental way, that growth has its own timing.
That roots must go deep before plants can grow strong.
That storms will come, and adaptation serves better than resistance.
And that reaching and growing always begets harvest.
Everything I have ever done has been preparing me for this work.
Now, as a coach, I bring all of it — the witness, the steward, the ear of someone who has spent a lifetime learning to truly listen.
I know how to be present with what is becoming.
I know how to encourage real transformation.
This is what I offer you.
I'm Hills. And I'd love to help you grow.

True story:
Two months before I uprooted my entire life and moved from northern California to southern France, I came across this sentence chalked on a sidewalk.
You see, I had yearned to live in the countryside since I was a little girl, but couldn’t muster the courage until I was in my late 50s. Finally, finally, finally! I was ready.
I have traveled around the world, lived in many countries, changed careers several times, forged relationships with all kinds of people. Navigating change has a way of growing us.
